SEI Official Introduction to the People CMM Training Course

This is the official Carnegie Mellon University – Software Engineering Institute (SEI) “Introduction to the People Capability Maturity Model® (People CMM® version 2.0)” Course (3 days-long). In this course the foundational concepts and structure of the People CMM and the value it provides to the organizations that use it are explored. Especially recommended to people involved in strategic and tactical management of Human Capital/HR, in improving workforce management practices and for people leading teams and/or managers.

The methodology of the course includes presentations, discussions, debates and various practical exercises with numerous opportunities to interact with other participants. At the end of the course, participants will be able to understand the practices described in the improvement framework of the People CMM, and will know how these practices can be used to improve the workforce management capability in their organizations, or to define an HR strategic plan or for improvement actions planning for specific areas of workforce management; ideas will be found on how to improve organizational alignment among different units (HR, IT, Development,...). Participants will be able to describe in detail the capability of an organization to develop and evolve its workforce in each maturity level.

This course is a pre-requirement for the “Intermediate Concepts of the People CMM” Training Course, the People CMM Appraisal Team Training Course and the “SCAMPI with People CMM® Lead Appraiser Training” from Carnegie Mellon University - SEI. Additionally: This course is required for SCAMPI with People CMM Appraisals participants.

What is People CMM?

The People Capability Maturity Model® (People CMM®) is a state-of-the-art organizational change management model designed to help organizations improve their workforce capability and effectiveness.

People CMM offers a maturity improvement framework that organizations can use to manage and improve their actions to attract, motivate and retain the best qualified professionals. The practices included in the model can help an organization become an employer of choice and assure that its workforce possesses the required competencies to achieve the organization’s current and future business objectives.

Considering the systemic view of People CMM, as well as the solid experiences in which the practices of the model are based, there is little doubt, if any, that a training program on the fundamentals and practices of the model provides great value to any professional who reach out to this management model.

For this reason, People CMM can be conceived as a key reference for effective training of HR professionals, people managers, executives, line-managers and people in general who are involved or interested in implementing continuous improvement programs in their organizations.
