About the SCAMPI Method
The SCAMPI Method (Standard CMMI Appraisal Method for Process Improvement) is a process developed by Carnegie Mellon University's SEI to offer quality benchmarkings with regards to CMMI® models and People CMM.
SCAMPI includes three "flavors": SCAMPI A, B and C, facilitating the evaluation an organization can perform using People CMM as a reference model, by applying different levels of rigor and organizational coverage.
From a simple "proof of concept/intent" of defined processes (SCAMPI C), to a validation of the rollout approach in the organization (SCAMPI B), to even the rigorous evaluation or benchmarking of process institutionalization (SCAMPI A), including the posibility of obtaining a rating of the organizational maturity level).
The SCAMPI Class A method focuses on “institutionalization”, by a rigorous standard of data collection about the implementation of the organization processes; as well as the identification and coverage of the organizational unit being appraised. It allows the performance of a “benchmarking” with regards to the reference model (People CMM) and to appraise the maturity level (ratings); as well as the goals and areas included in the appraisal scope.
The SCAMPI Class A method is the only is the only kind of appraisals from the SCAMPI family that can provide a rating for the maturity level.
The SCAMPI Class B method focuses on the “deployment” or implementation, keeping some of the detailed data collection requirements about the implementation in the organization, but offering relaxed sample criteria's. It can validate the implementation of processes and practices defined in a limited scope of the organization, assisting in the study and understanding of their possible deployment to the rest of the organization.
The SCAMPI Class C method focuses on the “approach” or proposed process, with relaxed requirements for detailed data collection on the level of use in the organization; though validating if the approach of the process to be implemented or implemented is consistent with the intention of the practices of the reference model (People CMM). It allows the validation of processes and practices definition with regard to the reference model (People CMM), helping to gain more trust and providing opportunities to improve the alignment of those processes with the requirements and expectations of the People CMM. It is a “pulse-taking” of the processes of the organization.
To perform a SCAMPI with People CMM appraisal or evaluation, it is necessary to use the services of an Authorized SCAMPI Lead Appraiser for the People CMM sponsored by an SEI Partner.
As SEI Partner for the People CMM, and being Yan Bello an active SCAMPI Lead Appraiser authorized by the SEI,
